FRIDAY MAY 5, 2017

M-STEP TESTING
M-step testing begins:
7th grade testing is May 9, May 11, and  May 16-17

Please make sure your chromebook is charged every day.  Please make sure you have a pair of earbuds for the listening portion of the test.

No electronic devices are allowed in the testing area.  This includes cell phones, Apple watches and/or any other device.  Any disruption can void the test of everyone in the room, so please make sure devices are powered off and in your locker.

Students should be sure to get a good night's sleep and eat a hearty breakfast so they are ready to do their best!

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to 6th grader Hailey G. who was recognized at last night's school board meeting.  Hailey received 1st place in the Lions Club "Peace Poster" art contest and was awarded a $100 prize.  She also came in 4th place in the district competition.  Thank you to Mrs. Copley-Sansom for offering this contest to her students and for assisting in the process.

ROBOTICS

Are any special skills needed to be part of robotics?

All skill levels are welcomed and needed, technical and non-technical. Teams need all kinds of skills to succeed, so what are you good at? Chances are we have a job for you. And we’ll probably teach you a few new ones while you’re with us.
Student and adult team members are encouraged to bring any skills they already have, like programming, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web creation, public speaking, videography, and many more.
The application can be found at bedfordftcrobotics.weebly.com  You can see Mrs. Hemry or e-mail her at jennifer.hemry@mybedford.us if you have any questions.

8TH GRADE GIRL BASKETBALL PLAYERS - OPEN GYM
Attention 8th grade girl basketball players!  If you are NOT involved in a spring sport, you are welcome to attend the high school open gyms to play basketball.  The open gyms are Wednesday nights 6 to 7:30.  Now is the time to work on your game before next season begins.  Come ready to compete!  See Coach Burgermeister or Coach Green for more details.

NJHS 2017-2018
Invitations to apply for NJHS membership for next year have been emailed to all students with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.  Students should  check their email for the invitation and links to the application and membership agreement.  All applications and membership agreements will need to be printed and submitted by May 15th for consideration.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Copley Sansom.

DRESS CODE
With the warmer temperatures, please keep in mind we adhere to a dress code at the junior high school. Here is a portion of the dress code:

Shorts and skirts need to be past the palm of your hand and touch a portion of your fingers
Muscle shirts cannot have jagged cuts and must have an appropriate tank under the arms
All tops must have straps that are 2 fingertip widths or wider and must cover all parts of undergarments.
All tops must cover the waistband of your pants.

You will be asked to call home immediately if you are violating the dress code.

BOOK DRIVE
Need to get some spring cleaning done? Starting May 1, there will be a book drive. All donations will be given to the Family House of Toledo to help homeless families. Any and all books will be accepted from May 1 to May 5. Donations may be dropped of in the junior high school office.

DROP OFF ITEMS
Students, if your parents drop off items for you during the day, they will be held at the front door with our door monitor. Students will only be called down during class change so as not to interrupt class time. Please listen to announcements during the class changes for your name. At that time, you may pick up your items from the door monitor.

YOUNG WRITER'S DAY
The Junior High will be holding a Young Writer's Day later this school year.  This event celebrates creative writing and allows students to share and develop an original work of fiction in a safe and structured environment. This is open to all grade levels. If you are interested, pick up a form from Mrs. Matlow in room 35 or Mr. Lorenz in room 38.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION
Box Top collections !! This year we will be collecting box tops and having a friendly competition between home rooms. This is an easy way to fund raise for the extra things our classrooms my need throughout the year. Just ask your students and parents to clip and save. Deposit them in the collection boxes with your homeroom name on them (or place in Mrs. Nimigean's mailbox in the high school or Mr. Muck's mailbox in the junior high). We will collect for 3 months for each giveaway.Winners will be awarded the first of December, March and June (top collector in each building). Make sure you get them turned in for a homeroom treat!

HANDBOOK REMI
NDER
Students who are leaving school early for an appointment should remember to come to the office first thing in the morning before school starts to receive an exit pass. They should not give their notes to their teachers. Do not wait until lunch to receive your exit pass.

SAFETY REMINDER
When getting off of the bus in the morning, be sure to stay on the sidewalk to get to the junior high. Do not walk on the cement island.

CHROMEBOOKS
Students please remember to limit what you take to each class. Chromebooks can not be stacked on several books. Carrying several books increases the chance for your chromebook to slip and break.

HEALTH ROOM VISITS
You must report to your next hour teacher before coming to the health room unless it is an emergency. That way your teacher knows where you are.
