PARENT INFORMATION
Did you know that students who legitimately use an opioid prescription are ⅓ more likely to misuse the drug by age 23 than those with no history of prescription use. The Student Prevention Leadership Team (SPLT) is campaigning against prescription drug abuse and heroin addiction. The strongest risk factor for heroin initiation is past abuse of opioids. If a child or a parent is prescribed opioid pain relievers after surgery or other medical procedures there is a possibility of becoming hooked to the drugs. Once they are hooked and all of the drugs are gone, they are most likely switch to heroin because it is cheaper than buying more prescription pills. When the doctor tells a patient to stop using medications or there is medication left over after past medical procedures, the pills should be disposed of in RedMed Box to avoid misuse.
Admitted to taking painkillers such as Oxycontin, Codeine, Vicodin, or Percocet without a doctor's prescription!
The BHS SPLT team would like to strongly urge you to dispose of old, out date, or unused prescriptions at one of the 6 RedBox Locations in Monroe County.

Box Top collections !! This year we will be collecting box tops and having a friendly competition between home rooms. This is an easy way to fund raise for the extra things our classrooms my need throughout the year. Just ask your students and parents to clip and save. Deposit them in the collection boxes with your homeroom name on them (or place in Mrs. Nimigean's mailbox in the high school or Mr. Muck's mailbox in the junior high).
We will collect for 3 months for each giveaway.
Winners will be awarded the first of December, March and June (top collector in each building). Make sure you get them turned in for a homeroom treat!
