DECEMBER 13, 2016

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Conner W. is our student of the week. Conner is a 6th grader in Mrs. Tully's homeroom class. He always shows great patience and compassion for other people. He is a wonderful student and is always willing to help others. Conner goes out of his way to be nice to fellow classmates and makes our school a better place. Great job, Conner.

CHROMEBOOK
CHROMEBOOKS ARE BEING BROKE AT AN AVERAGE 10 PER DAY AND THE EXCUSES THAT ARE BEING GIVEN ARE MOSTLY DUE TO IRRESPONSIBILITY. WE ARE RUNNING VERY LOW ON LOANERS AND IT IS TAKING 4 WEEKS FOR A REPLACEMENT. SOON THERE WILL NOT BE ANY LOANERS TO GIVE OUT, WHICH MEANS THEY WILL NOT HAVE A CHROMEBOOK TO DO THEIR HOMEWORK WITH. PLEASE HELP US KEEP AN EYE ON HOW YOUR CHILD IS TAKING CARE OF THEIR CHROME BOOK.

MICROWAVES IN LUNCHROOM

Due to the misuse of the microwaves in the lunchroom both are inoperable.
We will no longer have microwaves for students to use.

ROBOTICS
One of the last qualifying tournaments for advancement to the Michigan State Competition in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics series took place Dec. 10 at Bedford Junior High. This event was put on by Bedford Express FRC #1023. 36 middle school teams arrived with their robots to compete for spots to the state competition. Five of those teams were from Bedford Junior High: Bionic Broncos, Classical Engineers, F.L.A.G.(FIGHT LIKE A GIRL), Loose Screws, and Turning Gears.
Bionic Broncos, Classical Engineers, and Loose Screws made it to the semi-finals. Classical Engineers won the Inspire Award, the highest award in the competition. The team that receives this award is a strong ambassador for FIRST programs and a role model FTC team. This team is a top contender for many other judged awards and is a gracious competitor. The Inspire Award Winner is an inspiration to other teams, acting with Gracious Professionalism™ both on and off the playing field. This team is able to communicate their experiences, enthusiasm and knowledge to other teams, sponsors, their community, and the Judges.

Bionic Broncos was the captain of the winning alliance along with Da Cows #7902 from Carleton, and Lightning Boltz #5954 from Fenton.

F.L.A.G. won the Control Award which celebrates a team that uses sensors and software to enhance the robot’s functionality on the field. This award is given to the team that demonstrates innovative thinking in the control system to solve game challenges such as autonomous operation, enhancing mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results on the field.
Coach Denny Costlow took home the Compass Award. Members of his Classical Engineers nominated him for this coach award. Coach Chris Sommers, former Bedford Express team member, and BHS 2011 graduate, won the Young Coach/Mentor award. His Loose Screws nominated him for this trophy as well. Both coaches are outstanding examples of why our program is so strong.

Both Bionic Broncos and Classical Engineers earned spots to advance to the state competition on Dec. 17 in Battle Creek. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring or volunteering to help out with this outstanding STEM program, please contact the Bedford FTC Coordinator, Jennifer Hemry, through the Bedford FTC.

Deposit them in the collection boxes with your homeroom name on them (or place in Nimigean's mailbox in the high school or Muck's mailbox in the junior high).

We will collect for 3 months for each giveaway.

Winners will be awarded the first of December, March and June (top collector in each building). Make sure you get them turned in for a homeroom treat!

HANDBOOK REMINDER
Students who are leaving school early for an appointment should remember to come to the office first thing in the morning before school starts to receive an exit pass. They should not give their notes to their teachers. Do not wait until lunch to receive your exit pass.

DROP OFF ITEMS
Students, if your parents drop off items for you during the day, they will be held at the front door with our door monitor. Please listen to announcements during the class changes for your name..At that time, you may pick up your items from the door monitor.

SAFETY REMINDER
When getting off of the bus in the morning, be sure to stay on the sidewalk to get to the junior high. Do not walk on the cement island.

CHROMEBOOKS
Students please remember to limit what you take to each class. Chromebooks can not be stacked on several books. Carrying several books increases the chance for your chromebook to slip and break.
